Show & Shine 1st February 2004
At the Caribbean Gardens, Scoresby
The 24th annual Charger Club Show 'n Shine was held at a new venue this year. The Committee was forced to change the venue only a couple of months before
the show by the Mornington Council, who refused to let us park vehicles on the grass at Mornington park. As it was the third year in a row the Council had
given us plenty of hassles it was somewhat of a relief to be done with them.
| Given the late notice and forecast rainy weather for the day, expectations were for significantly fewer vehicles than last year's 75odd. But my mid
day there were around 60 Chryslers, and one Monaro on display. A fantastic show of support under the circumstances. Thanks for everyone who turned out and
supported the event. Thanks to everyone who helped make the event a success. On of those was Arnold Patch , shown on the right handing out entry form to
entrants. |

As with an new venue there were bound to be a few teething problems, lack of directions in the Gardens resulted in some people (me included) having to cruise
around to find the right spot, and there was some confusion regarding the swap meet sites. The staff at Caribbean Gardens were helpful on the day and have
subsequently provided us with better information for next time. Our thanks to the Caribbean Gardens for their assistance and support. We are looking forward
to having the event run a bit smoother next time. I was looking forward to having a few swap meet sites as part of the show, so hopefully this will be a
feature of the event next time.
Mark had trailered in the Club Car which was on display for the day, giving members and interested members of the public an opportunity to check it out.
There were also a fine collection of Chryslers, from US Chargers, Aussie Chargers of most types, including R/Ts, 770s, VH, VJ, VK, CLs, Pacers, VH Coups,
PTs, various Dodge models. The standard to the vehicles was very high, which are credit to the owners and put the Club and the Charger marque in a very
good light.
There was plenty of interesting from the passing public and everyone who had gone to the Show. Having been able to got without wife and kids this year I
had plenty of time to check out all the iron. There was so much to see I didn't get to see the Gardens at all. In fact I only just managed to grab some
lunch before the presentations. As usual Tim Smith came a long and awarded one car with the prestigious Tim Smith award. Tim singled out several worthy
award contenders - the yellow Charger with the Torana wheel arch flares, the single drifter. But the award was presented to the owner of a white ute, which
had parked next to a couple of the finer Dodges you are likely to see. There was then a bit of a break before the other awards were presented.
